Terol surprised by great start to season

Terol surprised by great start to season

As one of the stars of the single cylinder show so far in 2008, following a great start to the year for his Jack & Jones WRB team, Nico Terol is a happy young man at present.

At the start of his fourth full season in the World Championship 19 year-old Spanish rider Nico Terol is in fine form, though he admits he is surprised to be going into round four in the lofty position of second in the 125cc standings.

After securing two successive podium finishes in the last two races, having never previously appeared on a Grand Prix rostrum, Terol has 42 points from the opening three rounds, trailing only his Italian Jack & Jones WRB colleague Simone Corsi in the general classification.

`I am very happy because things have gone well so far,´ says Terol. `We are just at the beginning but we are working well, the bike is great and I´m enjoying it.´

`I didn´t expect to be so high up in the standings. I knew I was going to do well, because I was working really hard and I was pleased with the team, but I really didn´t expect to be so high after just three races. It´s very satisfying.´

On the reasons for his flying start to 2008 Terol states, `I think the key things are the good work we are doing and the rapport that there is between the mechanics. The bikes are doing well and both riders in the team are at the top, in first and second place in the championship. Like I say, it is only the third race, but we are working well as a team.´

Meanwhile, despite his team-mate Corsi currently being his biggest rival on the track, Terol insists the competition between the pair has not changed the great relationship they enjoy.

The teenager concluded, `It hasn´t affected things because when we are racing we give everything, but off-track things are normal between us. Obviously we both want to win but our relationship is just the same as before.´
