Chinese Racing Numbers

Some interesting figures to watch out for at the Pramac Grand Prix of China.

33 years – On the day of the race in China it will be 33 years ago to the day that factory Yamaha rider Hideo Kanaya won both the 350cc and 500cc races at the 1975 Austrian Grand Prix at the Salzburgring circuit. This has a double significance in the record books as the first 500cc race win by a Japanese rider and the only ever occasion that a Japanese rider has won two GP races on the same day.

21 – Since joining the Ducati team at the start of last year Casey Stoner has scored points in 21 successive races. However he still has some way top go to match record of 37 successive point scoring finishes achieved by fellow Australian Mick Doohan.

3 – Jorge Lorenzo has been on pole at the first three races of the year, which equals the best sequence of successive poles by a rider of Yamaha's four-stroke MotoGP machine achieved by Valentino Rossi.

3 – Jorge Lorenzo is only the third rider to win a Grand Prix riding Yamaha's four-stroke MotoGP machine, joining his two heroes Valentino Rossi and Max Biaggi.

2 – At the last Grand Prix in Portugal, Yamaha had three riders finish in the top four for only the second time since the four stroke MotoGP rules were introduced at the start of 2002. The other time was at the Catalunya GP in 2004 when Rossi took the victory, with Marco Melandri finishing third and Carlos Checa fourth.
