Round four weekend underway in China

Round four weekend underway in China

The fourth round of the 2008 MotoGP World Championship season, the Pramac Grand Prix of China, commenced in continued Shanghai sunshine on Friday morning.

The good weather conditions which welcomed MotoGP to Shanghai for Thursday´s pre-event proceedings continued on Friday morning as the action commenced with pleasant temperatures and under hazy, sunny skies.

Though rain is a possibility for Sunday´s Pramac Grand Prix of China racing and could also affect qualifying tomorrow according to forecasts, Friday looks as though it will provide opportunities for the riders and their hard-working teams for testing and tweaking of dry set-ups only.

The Friday activity customarily commenced with the 125cc riders the first out on track at the state-of-the-art Shanghai International circuit, leaving their pit-boxes for their opening free practice session at 9am prompt local time.

The MotoGP riders will get their usual hour-long free practice run-outs at 10am and 1.55pm local time, providing 250cc graduates Jorge Lorenzo (Fiat Yamaha), Andrea Dovizioso (JiR Team Scot) and Alex de Angelis (San Carlo Honda Gresini) with their maiden outings in China on 800cc machinery. For their fellow MotoGP rookie James Toseland (Tech 3 Yamaha), meanwhile, it will be his first taste of the Shanghai layout of any sort.

The Friday lap times of the likes of Valentino Rossi (Fiat Yamaha), Casey Stoner (Ducati Marlboro) and Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) should also make for interesting reading and may provide an early indication of who the main podium contenders will be come Sunday.
