Yamaha chief praises Rossi and Lorenzo

Masao Furusawa, Yamaha Executive Officer for Engineering Operations, reviewed an action-packed Fiat Yamaha weekend in Shanghai when he spoke to motogp.com.

The visit to the Far East for the Pramac Grand Prix of China produced heroics from both Fiat Yamaha riders, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, much to the satisfaction of Yamaha Executive Officer for Engineering Operations, Masao Furusawa.

Rossi was back to his magical best at round four, taking his first victory since last September in Portugal, and his first triumph on Bridgestone tyres, to put himself right in amongst it in terms of the title fight.

Appraising the work of the multi-World title winner since his switch in rubber suppliers Furusawa commented, `Valentino has come back to the podium and got the win. We have had a long wait since the last one in Estoril. This year he started a big challenge with different tyres. Step by step it was getting better and today he finally won, so I´m very happy.´

Of Lorenzo´s gritty run to fourth place, riding through the pain barrier on his injured ankles, the Yamaha representative stated, `Jorge unfortunately had a big crash in the first free practice but after that he came back and very much impressed in qualifying and also on Sunday. To be honest I did not expect such a good result from him, so again I´m quite pleased.´

When asked to explain what had produced Yamaha´s recent improvements in competitiveness Furusawa added, `Mainly we modified the engine, which means more horsepower but at the same time we have kept the driveability. Secondly we have developed a new electronics system, and that helps a lot on engine torque. Both Michelin and Bridgestone have upgraded very much and the tyres help a lot with set-up, so I really appreciate their work.´
