Elias performance aids Alice Team upturn in fortunes

Luis d´Antin pleased by resurgence of Spanish star after difficult start to 2008.

Despite a shaky start to their 2008 season –to be expected when fielding two riders unfamiliar with the tricky Ducati Desmosedici- the Alice Team saw some light at the end of the tunnel with a positive performance from Toni Elias in Shanghai.

Although the satellite team were unable to break into the top ten with both their riders (Sylvain Guintoli was 15th in last Sunday´s race) the upturn in fortunes for Elias to finish 8th brought a smile to the face of Team Principal Luis d´Antin.

`Shanghai was a good race. Toni had some problems, and needs to improve his setup to become more competitive at the beginning of the race, but after 3-4 laps he picked up his pace,´ reviewed d´Antin, after watching Elias set consistently fast times in the final stages of the Chinese contest.

`We´re going in the right direction, and we hope that soon we can catch the others at the front.´

The next race on the calendar -the Alice Grand Prix de France- is another important one for the team, with the date at Le Mans sharing title sponsorship with d´Antin´s outfit. Last year they earned fifth place in a wet affair, courtesy of Alex Hofmann, and Guintoli also led a MotoGP race for the first time on his MotoGP homecoming.

The familiar `step-by-step´ approach is endorsed by the satellite outfit boss, who is well aware of the effort required to battle amongst the leading pack.

`The championship is very long. We need more time to improve with both riders and understand how they work. We must get to the stage where we are competitive in any conditions, anywhere.´
