Barbera leads Aprilia fightback in 250cc opener

Team Toth´s Hector Barbera recorded the fastest 250cc time of the morning in preparation for the Alice Grand Prix de France.

Aprilia were in fighting form in the 250cc class at the opening practice session in Le Mans, as they aim to retaliate against the KTM one-two result from Shanghai. Hector Barbera of Team Toth led the charge, his 1´39.284 lap in the final seconds of the run giving him the top spot.

Polaris World´s Mattia Pasini –the highest placing Aprilia rider in the overall classification in second- was close behind his Spanish rival, less than a tenth of a second slower than Barbera´s marker. Mapfre Aspar´s unfortunate Alvaro Bautista and another Spaniard, Alex Debon, rounded off the Italian manufacturer´s domination of the opening laps in Le Mans.

Marco Simoncelli was fifth onboard Metis Gilera machinery, ahead of the fastest KTM rider in the form of Repsol man Julian Simon. Hiroshi Aoyama, Thomas Luthi and Thailand´s Ratthapark Wilairot –himself one of the minimal Honda contingent- completed the top ten along with Roberto Locatelli.

Current quarter litre category leader and Shanghai race winner Mika Kallio came in thirteenth fastest.
