Simon takes top spot in final 250cc practice session

Julian Simon was the quickest man on track at Le Mans in the second free practice session, in preparation for this afternoon´s qualifying run.

Repsol KTM rider Julian Simon broke Aprilia´s Le Mans stronghold with the fastest time of the second 250cc practice session, clocking a 1´38.652 lap of the French track ahead of this afternoon´s crucial qualifying run.

The Spaniard took the top spot by nearly two tenths of a second from Emmi-Caffe Latte´s Thomas Luthi, one of the Aprilia riders with full factory machinery. A fellow KTM rider, in the form of Hiroshi Aoyama, was third on the timesheet.

The man on provisional pole, Alvaro Bautista was over half a second slower than his time from yesterday afternoon but still a respectable fourth in the morning session, followed by Manuel Poggiali and title rivals Mattia Pasini and Mika Kallio.

Marco Simoncelli, Aleix Espargaro and Hector Faubel completed the top ten in the quarter litre class.

The current provisional front row consists of Bautista, Lotus Aprilia´s Alex Debon, Simoncelli and Pasini. Kallio is currently on the third row.
