Simoncelli: `Pasini pass was like our minimoto days´

250cc Le Mans podium finisher Marco Simoncelli gave Mattia Pasini a blast from the past with a move honed in their formative years.

Marco Simoncelli stuck a hard move on Mattia Pasini to snatch second place in the Alice Grand Prix de France, a manoeuvre developed during their time competing as children in Italy.

`Pasini and I went back to our minimoto days of ten years ago on the final lap,´ laughed Simoncelli after taking his second 250cc podium. `We used to fight against each other every week! I´m sure that if he had been the one overtaking me on the final corner then I wouldn´t be especially happy…´

Simoncelli suffered disappointment last year at Mugello, his home race and the location for the next round of the quarter litre World Championship. Currently joint third in the overall standings, the Italian is eager and prepared to make amends in two weeks time.

`This result in Le Mans has made me optimistic about Mugello. We´ve been fast at every race, and we´ll try and keep that up in Italy,´ said the flamboyant Metis Gilera rider.
