Edwards engages in Michelin tyre testing in Clermont-Ferrand

Tech 3 Yamaha rider Colin Edwards headed to Michelin´s Clermont-Ferrand test track after taking his first podium of the year, with wet tyre performance improvement a priority.

A first podium of the season under their belts, Colin Edwards´ side of the Tech 3 Yamaha garage are not resting on their laurels following their Le Mans third place finish. Absence from post-race testing on Monday did not mean the end of the satellite outfit´s work in France, as Edwards and teammate James Toseland headed cross-country to Clermont-Ferrand and two days of Michelin tests.

The testing schedule –involving Edwards, Toseland and Michelin tyre tester William Costes- has been divided into a dry day (Tuesday) and a wet session (Wednesday). Clermont-Ferrand benefits from a system that replicates track precipitation, and it is hoped that some further improvements can be made on the tyre front.

`We´ll be testing the tyres as the track dries out, which is a condition that hasn´t been too good for us so far,´ notes Edwards´ Crew Chief Gary Reinders, who feels that the Sunday podium was just reward for the American´s efforts.

`I´m more than happy, because Le Mans is our home Grand Prix. Colin deserved the podium, and now he is more and more confident because he knows that he can do it,´ said Reinders after Edwards gave the team their first home podium since 2003.

`In Mugello he´ll be there again; for the previous four rounds he was always there in practice, then in the race he was either unlucky or made a mistake.´
