Lorenzo title chances played down by Romagnoli

Lorenzo title chances played down by Romagnoli

Despite an amazing start to Jorge Lorenzo´s MotoGP career, any aspirations of title contention continue to be brushed off by his Fiat Yamaha crew.

Race after race, Jorge Lorenzo continues to build up his case as a MotoGP title contender. The Spaniard has overcome inexperience, injury and some of the top talents in MotoGP to put himself right up at the sharp end of the standings after five races.

Despite the Fiat Yamaha rider´s early form, expectations continue to be played down by the Japanese factory team, as Daniele Romagnoli explained in the immediate aftermath of Lorenzo´s most recent podium in Le Mans.

`Jorge did something that is difficult to explain; he´s unbelievable,´ said the 21 year-old´s Crew Chief. `However, we can´t talk about the title. We aren´t going for the championship this time. We just want to get the maximum information possible and gain experience. We don´t know what will happen in such a long season.´

Lorenzo was absent from post-race testing as he rested up his injured ankles, and it is hoped that he will compete at Mugello in further improved condition after further rehabilitation.

`Jorge will continue to improve his fitness race-by-race, and in Mugello he will be much better,´ promised Romagnoli. After an evaluation in Barcelona on Tuesday, Lorenzo´s injuries were confirmed to be healing to plan, unaffected by his Friday crash in Le Mans.
