250cc class returns to Mugello with title gap reduced

In 250cc, a first race of the year outside the top three in Le Mans could only slightly reduce the advantage held by Red Bull KTM´s Mika Kallio, currently sixteen points ahead of Mattia Pasini.

In 250cc, a first race of the year outside the top three in Le Mans could only slightly reduce the advantage held by Red Bull KTM´s Mika Kallio, currently sixteen points ahead of Mattia Pasini. Kallio will be aiming to re-extend his superiority at the Polaris World rookie´s home track, a tough task bearing in mind that KTM have never placed on the Mugello rostrum in the quarter litre class.

Third in the standings is Alex Debon, who finally took his first Grand Prix victory in France. The Spaniard is well-versed with his Lotus Aprilia machinery at the scene of round six, having entered as a wildcard during his two-year full-time hiatus.

Yuki Takahashi is tied with Debon on 59 points, whilst fifth place is shared by Metis Gilera home rider Marco Simoncelli, second Red Bull KTM man Hiroshi Aoyama and Team Toth´s Hector Barbera, all on 53 points. Behind the inseparable trio, Alvaro Bautista returns to the track at which he took his first 250cc victory last year on the back of a dismal run of misfortune.
