Stoner `doing it for Ducati´ this weekend in Mugello

Stoner `doing it for Ducati´ this weekend in Mugello

At his second-favourite track, World Champion Casey Stoner is out to reward Ducati´s efforts just a stone´s throw from their headquarters.

In the unpredictable world of MotoGP, one thing remains reassuringly inevitable from year to year; the vast majority of the premier class riders express their love for Mugello, regarded as one of the most beautiful and `race-able´ tracks on the World Championship calendar.

Reigning World Champion Casey Stoner is no exception to the rule, adding his name to the list of participants enamoured with the Italian circuit. The only unfortunate point for the Ducati rider is that his main title rivals share the same opinion…

`Whenever anybody asks me which is my favourite track, other than my home track of Phillip Island, Mugello immediately springs to mind. It is a true racetrack - fast, technical and demanding because it requires a precise line otherwise you can lose a lot of time,´ says Stoner, representing Ducati at their home track for a second year. The 22 year-old was beaten to the podium at last year´s race by satellite rider Alex Barros, but reflects positively on his 2007 fourth place.

`Last year we missed the podium by a little bit but the race was still important because we learnt some things about the bike that helped us be competitive at the races that followed. This year we arrive on the back of a tough race, where we had a problem that prevented us from scoring a podium, but on the whole it was a positive weekend because we had a fast and consistent pace going during practice.´

The problem that ended Stoner´s Ducati point-scoring run in France was identified in post-race testing as a faulty engine component, and when the Desmosedici GP8 is taken on the short trip from the Borgo Panigale factory to Mugello the World Champion can expect to perform as the build up to Le Mans had promised.

`Hopefully we can manage to be just as fast at Mugello but have a good race too - for the fans, who always create such a special atmosphere in Italy, but mainly for everybody at Ducati and the guys in the team, who are working so hard and deserve a top result.´
