Bautista continues 2007 Mugello form in 250cc practice

Bautista continues 2007 Mugello form in 250cc practice

2007 Mugello racewinner Alvaro Bautista started fastest in practice for the 2008 Gran Premio d´Italia Alice.

Concluding the first turn of World Championship action in Mugello, Alvaro Bautista led the early going in the 250cc class with a lap of 1´55.321

The track condition had progressed from the wetness of the 125cc runout to drier asphalt on the racing line and beyond, reflected by laps in some cases quicker than those of the quarter litre class´ MotoGP counterparts. Bautista was the initial form rider and, as last year´s race winner, can be expected to mount a serious challenge for victory this weekend.

He may face stiff competition from fellow Spaniard Hector Barbera, a rider who also has a good record in Italy. The Team Toth rider was second fastest behind the Mapfre Aspar man, three-tenths of a second slower on his fastest lap. Home rider Mattia Pasini was the highest placing Italian, in third onboard his Polaris World Aprilia.

Marco Simoncelli, Le Mans racewinner Alex Debon and former World Champion Manuel Poggiali were the only other riders to go round within a second of Bautista´s marker, whilst Karel Abraham and Thomas Luthi continued Italian factory dominance of the top ten with their respective Aprilia machinery, placing ahead of the Hiroshi Aoyama-Mika Kallio KTM combination.

The first 250cc qualifying session will take place on Friday afternoon, closing the day´s action.
