Saturday commences with more grey skies at Mugello

The start of day two at the Gran Premio d´Italia Alice saw more clouds hanging ominously over the Mugello circuit, in Italy´s spectacular Tuscany region.

The forecasts of morning sunshine at Mugello were proved wrong on Saturday as the MotoGP paddock awoke to another grey day at the Gran Premio d´Italia Alice, with some menacing clouds overhead making further rain look a distinct possibility after Friday´s downpours.

Some overnight precipitation has left the track surface damp at the Italian circuit, which may frustrate the teams as they attempt to find the right settings for what is predicted to be a dry race on Sunday.

In qualifying this afternoon home favourite Valentino Rossi will be looking for his first pole position of the year - and his first on Bridgestone tyres - as he attempts to defend his unbeaten run of six consecutive Grand Prix wins at his home circuit, his main challenges likely to come from team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, Repsol Honda´s Dani Pedrosa and World Champion Casey Stoner.

In the 125cc and 250cc classes provisional pole-men Pol Espargaro and Mattia Pasini will attempt to confirm their positions at the head of their respective grids either side of MotoGP qualifying, before the Red Bull Rookies Cup riders round off the day´s activities in the fifth race of their 2008 competition at 4.20pm local time.
