250cc class focus turns to Catalunya

With home riders strongly represented, the 250cc class are set for another exciting battle in Barcelona.

The leadership of the 250cc class is held by Mika Kallio, the Red Bull KTM rider in his sophomore year in the category. Despite two races outside the podium places, the Finn still boasts a comfortable advantage of 18 points over nearest rival Mattia Pasini.

A regular competitor at the Circuit de Catalunya despite his two year absence from full-time action, Alex Debon has established himself as a title contender in his comeback year. The Lotus Aprilia rider is third in the standings, one point clear of Metis Gilera´s Mugello racewinner Marco Simoncelli.

The Japanese duo of Hiroshi Aoyama and Yuki Takahashi also feature in the top six in the standings, ahead of two home riders on a bad run of misfortune in 2007. Team Toth Aprilia´s Hector Barbera and Mapfre Aspar´s expected title challenger Alvaro Bautista both crashed out in Mugello.
