Barcelona welcomes MotoGP with official presentation

The official Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya presentation took place in Barcelona on Tuesday.

This year´s MotoGP visit to Barcelona, the Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya, was officially acknowledged on Tuesday afternoon with a presentation at the Hotel AC Miramar, on the Montjuic hill overlooking the city.

Following the visit to the spectacular Mugello circuit in Italy last weekend, the World Championship descends on the beautiful Catalan capital this week, for another hotly anticipated GP. Another huge crowd is expected this weekend at the Circuit de Catalunya, a few kilometres north of Barcelona, with the 2007 weekend-long attendance figure recorded at more than 200,000.

Tuesday´s presentation was attended by representatives from the Circuit de Catalunya, the Generalitat de Barcelona (local government), sponsors Cinzano and MotoGP rights holders Dorna. Local MotoGP stars Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo and Toni Elias, along with former Barcelona resident Shinya Nakano, were also in attendance, accompanied by a number of Catalan riders from the lower categories.

Earlier in the day at Montjuic - which provides spectacular views of Barcelona and itself hosted GPs in the past – former rider Salvador Canellas showed off a vintage 125cc single cylinder two-stroke Bultaco bike which he rode to victory in the Spanish Grand Prix at the same venue 40 years ago. The Bultaco brand is local to Barcelona and celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
