Elias looking for motivation from fans

Elias looking for motivation from fans

Toni Elias does not have far to travel to the Catalunya circuit this weekend and hopes home support can guide him into the top ten.

A move to the Alice Team for the 2008 season has not been the easiest ride for former Honda rider Toni Elias thus far, with just one top ten finish to his name to date in 2008.

The Catalan rider´s best result so far with the Ducati satellite team is his eighth place in China, but he like factory Ducati rider Marco Melandri and fellow Alice charge Sylvain Guintoli have failed to look competitive for the majority of the campaign.

Recent visits to his home circuit have not been too successful, with two DNFs in his last two Catalunya races, though Elias did register a podium finish in the 250cc class in 2004 at the Montmelo track.

Nonetheless, the man from Manresa – a small town close to Barcelona – believes the support of the passionate Barcelona crowd could give just the lift he requires this weekend.

`It is my home race, but the situation is quite difficult and I am sure it will be difficult this weekend,´ Elias said. `But we are at home and we will have extra motivation from the fans. I hope to do a good job throughout the weekend, to find some good solutions and get a good result at home.´

Going into more detail about his current limitations and his expectations for his biggest race of the year, Elias added, `The problems we have depend on the track. At some places it is better and at some the problems increase. China was good for us but at Le Mans and Mugello it was really difficult. I think getting into the top five is impossible at the moment, but getting top ten finishes is possible, so we have to work towards that.´
