Barbera starts afresh in opening 250cc session

Hector Barbera recorded the fastest morning time in the 250cc class at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Less than one week on from his spectacular Mugello crash, Hector Barbera began afresh in Barcelona in preparation for his 101st Grand Prix appearance. The Team Toth rider was back on home soil, and showed his expertise of the Circuit de Catalunya with a 1´47.176 lap unmatched by his rivals.

The Mugello poleman was followed on the timesheets by Mika Kallio, the series leader, slower by over three-tenths of a second. Kallio headed the KTM charge after a difficult set of practice sessions for the Austrian factory in Mugello.

Alvaro Bautista was inseparable from Kallio´s time as he began his attempt at picking up his World Championship form, although he had his problems with a crash during the session, whilst Mugello racewinner Marco Simoncelli and Alex Debon were all within half a second of Barbera´s time.

Title challenger Mattia Pasini, Yuki Takahashi, Lukas Pesek and Aleix Espargaro rounded off the fastest ten in the opening 250cc practice session.
