Terol makes himself at home in Catalunya

Nico Terol opened proceedings in Barcelona with the fastest 125cc time of the morning.

Starting the action at the Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya, the 125cc World Championship riders were on track on Friday morning in Barcelona. Unfortunately for them, so was the overnight and early morning rain, making the asphalt a tricky surface in the first free practice session.

The early pacesetter in northeast Spain was home rider Nico Terol, the Jack&Jones WRB rider who has come into his own in 2008. He clocked a time of 1´52.598 at a circuit where he has much experience.

Less than a two-tenths of a second down on Terol´s marker was Scott Redding, a rider well versed in the nuances of the Circuit de Catalunya through his time in the Spanish national series. The Blusens Aprilia rookie was joined in the early top three by Mike di Meglio, like Terol a young talent chasing the championship lead this weekend.

Fourth fastest was Onde 200 KTM´s Raffaele de Rosa, ahead of Sergio Gadea, Bradley Smith and World Champion Gabor Talmacsi. Efren Vazquez and the Belson Derbi duo of Pol Espargaro & Joan Olive completed the top ten.

There was a late crash for British rider Danny Webb, who fell without injury despite the awkward look of his lowside.
