Jarvis provides update on Lorenzo status

After Jorge Lorenzo was ruled out of action at the Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya and spent the night in hospital, Yamaha´s Lin Jarvis provided an update on the situation.

Speaking to in the Circuit de Catalunya paddock on Saturday Yamaha Motor Racing´s Managing Director Lin Jarvis confirmed that MotoGP rookie Jorge Lorenzo is already on the road to recovery, despite his overnight stay in hospital.

Lorenzo is being attended to by Doctor Xavier Mir of the University Institut Dexeus in Barcelona, having suffered a heavy blow to the head and having sustained finger injuries in a free practice accident at Montmelo on Friday, but after various scans it has been confirmed that there is no serious cranial damage.

Although he misses his home Grand Prix the brilliant 21 year-old has not done his ankles any further harm as he continues to recover from the fractures he sustained in a spectacular highside in Shanghai – and his team expect him to be ready for action in Donington in two weeks time.

`We had an update this morning,´ stated Jarvis. `I spoke to Dani Amatriain who is at the hospital with Jorge. He stayed in hospital overnight as a precautionary measure just to keep him under supervision and control. The CAT scan yesterday was good, so he just needs to take some time out and be stabilised for about 48 hours. So the news is positive, but Jorge was quiet and resting.´

`I understand he has lost some skin on his fingers from the crash so that is also being looked at and he is a bit beaten up,´ continued the Yamaha boss. `We all saw the crash on TV and he rolled over and over, but it seems that on the head injury things should be ok. But as always with these things we will have to wait and take it day by day.´

When asked if he thought complete rest could be just what Lorenzo needs after a series of recent crashes, further to an incredible start in MotoGP, Jarvis responded, `I am sure he would disagree because he is a racer and they want to go out and race all the time.´

`The reality is that since China he has had quite a torrid time. Obviously that was a massive crash in China and the pain he has had to endure since I think he has coped incredibly well with. He made a mistake with a crash in Mugello but many good riders went down yesterday. I think something is telling him to take time out now and recover and that is certainly our advice.´
