Provisional poleman Alvaro Bautista ups the pace

Alvaro Bautista lined up his challenge for pole position in Catalunya by dropping his time in the final 250cc practice session.

Alvaro Bautista upped the pace in the final practice session for the Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya, his 1´46.181 over three-tenths of a second quicker than his provisional pole time from Friday afternoon. The Mapfre Aspar man´s previous time was only beaten by one rider, fellow Spaniard Hector Barbera, himself also on the provisional front row.

Completing a trio of local stars and podium contenders, Alex Debon was third fastest onboard the Lotus Aprilia. Mattia Pasini, Marco Simoncelli, Yuki Yakahashi and Hiroshi Aoyama were the only other riders within a second of Bautista´s time, having all showed a speedy pace so far on the Barcelona visit.

After suffering a light injury to his hand yesterday afternoon, Ratthapark Wilairot gave a creditable display with the eighth fastest time, ahead of Julian Simon and Aleix Espargaro. The latter´s brother, Pol, is on provisional pole for the 125cc race.
