Repsol Honda pair review front row finishes

Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden spoke to after they achieved a double front-row grid result at the Circuit de Catalunya for the Repsol Honda team.

Setting the second and third fastest times in this afternoon's thrilling qualifying session at the Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya Dani Pedrosa was less than a tenth of a second off pole position, with team-mate Nicky Hayden just 0.251s off the pace.

Pedrosa, who was on pole in France last month, had an electrical problem with his number one bike in qualifying but was able to switch to his second bike and challenge for pole, proving the consistent performance of his two Honda RC212V machines.

Afterwards, the Catalan rider commented, `It was difficult because I had a problem with one of my bikes and I had to stop. I came back to the pit but it was a lot of time lost and I was nervous. I was then only able to make two or three laps more, and then start with qualifying tyres.´

`I was still nervous because I had lost time, and fortunately I calmed down at the end and went faster. But it was a difficult session, so to finally finish second is good.´

For Hayden meanwhile, this is his best qualifying performance of the year so far, following two fourth places at Jerez and Estoril.

`It´s nice to be back on the front row and things went pretty smoothly today,´ said the American star. `I thought I might be able to have shot at pole, but my last qualifying tyre didn´t give me that extra step I needed. Things went relatively well though, so I just need to turn it into a result on Sunday.´

When asked if he is happy with the race set-up of his RC212V, the Kentucky Kid answered honestly, `It depends on the temperature. I have one tyre working quite well in certain conditions, but I am going to be quite in between on tyre choice.´
