The front of the 125cc grid for Sunday´s Barcelona race has produced some interesting points of note.

- Pol Espargaro starts from pole for the first time in his Grand Prix career. Espargaro, who will celebrate his seventeenth birthday on Tuesday, is the fourth youngest rider ever to start a Grand Prix from pole after Marco Melandri, Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa.

- This is the first pole for a Derbi rider since Lukas Pesek was the fastest qualifier at the San Marino GP last year.

- Mike di Meglio will be starting from his best grid position since he also qualified second at Mugello last year. Di Meglio´s last point-scoring ride at the Catalunya circuit was in 2004 when he finished eighth.

- Derbi riders having qualified first and second for the first time ever in the 125cc class.

- Nicolas Terol will be starting from the front row for the fourth time this year.

- Scott Redding starts from the front row for the first time since his Grand Prix debut at the opening race of the year in Qatar.

- Simone Corsi´s seventh place finish last year is his best result in the 125cc class at the Catalunya circuit.

- Tomoyoshi Koyama, the winner last year at the Catalan GP, has qualified down in 22nd place on the grid.
