Gresini mark 200th Grand Prix with celebration

The San Carlo Honda Gresini team marked their 200th GP with an event in the MotoGP paddock on Saturday evening at the Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya.

Former 125cc World Champion and current MotoGP team boss Fausto Gresini invited selected guests to a celebration event in the San Carlo Honda Gresini hospitality suite on Saturday, to mark a double century of Grands Prix for premier class outfit.

Current riders Alex de Angelis and Shinya Nakano were joined at the event by the team´s 2007 line-up Toni Elias and Marco Melandri, who spent two and three years respectively with the team, while additional former Gresini riders still on the MotoGP grid Loris Capirossi and Colin Edwards were also in attendance.

Over the course of its history the Italian team has contested three different World Championship classes: 500cc (1997 and 1998), 250cc (1999 to 2002), and MotoGP (2002 to present), commencing in the 500cc category in 1997 with Alex Barros.

Success on the track has come in the shape of a 250cc world title (with Daijiro Kato in 2001) and the runner-up spot in the MotoGP World Championship on no fewer than three occasions (twice with Sete Gibernau and then with Melandri between 2003 and 2005). A total of 32 victories, 35 second places and 25 thirds take the team´s podium tally to 92.
