Kallio fights back in 250cc final preparations

Mika Kallio was the fastest 250cc rider in the quarter litre class warmup run.

Despite having to start from his lowest grid position of the season –ninth- in Catalunya, World Championship leader Mika Kallio showed that he cannot be ruled out of the running for victory with the quickest time of the 250cc warmup. The Finn was the only rider to go round in under 1´50, and was nearly 1.4 seconds faster than his nearest rival, Red Bull KTM teammate Hiroshi Aoyama.

Keen to avoid being outshined by his 125cc pole position brother Pol, Aleix Espargaro came out swinging with the third fastest time of the quarter litre session. The fastest Spaniard of the morning run, the Lotus Aprilia man was in turn ahead of fellow countryman Julian Simon and an Aprilia trio of Thomas Luthi, Lukas Pesek and Karel Abraham. Also in the top ten were Fabrizio Lai, Imre Toth and Northern Irish rider Eugene Laverty.
