Brivio assesses title rivals

Brivio assesses title rivals

Following the seventh Grand Prix of the season at Catalunya and some crucial post-race testing, Davide Brivio summarised Valentino Rossi´s work and gave his view on the MotoGP title race.

With his Fiat Yamaha charge Valentino Rossi maintaining the World Championship lead at Barcelona with a second place finish on Sunday, as his three-race winning streak was ended by Dani Pedrosa, the Italian´s team manager Davide Brivio spoke to on Monday following an afternoon of testing.

Commenting on what had been on the test agenda, Brivio stated, `The bike had a big development over the winter so he don´t have much new material, but even now we try new things and have new ideas. We tried some new engine mapping and new settings.´

`We worked on the race starts, because now it seems to be more and more important in the MotoGP races to start well,´ he continued. `We also worked on qualifying because it is also important to be on the front rows, not on the third row like we were on Sunday.´

With Rossi now leading the general standings by seven points, Brivio commented on his rider´s key competitors, saying, `Because of the points total (Dani) Pedrosa is our main rival, but (Casey) Stoner is also very fast and for the next race Jorge (Lorenzo) will be back and he will be keen to get back on top, with a lot of energy after this rest.´

Asked whether Lorenzo´s presence as a fellow race-winner and championship front-runner in the same Yamaha factory team was a help or a hindrance to Rossi, Brivio commented, `Honestly speaking I think that Valentino and Jorge each think of themselves first. They are both great champions and they are not here to help each other, they are here to beat each other.´
