Preziosi: `GP9 test was better than we were hoping´

Ducati Corse General Manager Filippo Preziosi was delighted with Casey Stoner´s first run with the Desmosedici GP9.

Casey Stoner´s first outing with Ducati´s Desmosedici GP9 was put forward to this past Monday, and the results certainly brought a smile to the faces of those in the Italian factory. One man with reason to be delighted was Ducati Corse General Manager Filippo Preziosi, one of the key men behind the prototype of the 2009 machine.

`It was even better than we were hoping!´ beamed Preziosi on the second day of post-race testing in Catalunya. `Casey was happy from the first time out of the garage and rode around with the same pace as in the race, so that shows that our choice of direction wasn´t so bad.´

Marco Melandri also had a brief encounter with the latest version of the bike, but it was adjudged to be more appropriate to use test riders Vittoriano Guareschi and Niccolo Canepa for the majority of Tuesday owing to adverse weather conditions. However, Stoner´s Monday data was regarded as more than sufficient to further refine the project.

Ducati are currently performing monthly tests at Mugello with the GP9, whilst the development of the 2008 bike continues concurrently.

`The GP8 is being modified race by race, with the focus on engine driveability. We had some new parts to test with (Alice Team satellite rider) Toni Elias, and we got some good times from him,´ concluded Preziosi.
