Congregation enjoy sunshine for first morning of Assen action

As the early morning service at `the Cathedral of motorcycling´ got underway on Thursday at the A-Style TT Assen the riders were greeted by perfect weather conditions.

Saturday´s racing at Assen means the first day of free practice and qualifying takes place today (Thursday), as the World Championship´s visit to the Netherlands follows its unique and traditional schedule.

The early morning runs will take place under perfect blue skies in Northern Holland, with the single cylinder class kicking off proceedings as of 9am.

The first MotoGP free practice timesheet of the day will make for interesting reading as several riders take to the track on their 800cc prototypes carrying injuries, most notably Loris Capirossi as he returns from a broken hand - with James Toseland (bruised hand), John Hopkins (back injury) and Jorge Lorenzo (ankle and finger injuries) also still recovering from their respective knocks.

Toni Elias is also likely to be riding with caution in the early going having suffered serious crashes in practice on his last two visits to Assen, and having never competed in a premier class race at the circuit due to injuries.
