Gadea shines early in Assen 125cc opener

Sergio Gadea was the 125cc class´ fastest rider on Thursday morning.

Less than four complete days since they were last on track, the 125cc riders where testing themselves once more in preparation for the A-Style TT Assen. In contrast to Donington Park, however, the wind was light and there was not a cloud in sight as the lower cylinder class riders pitted their wits against each other.

Sergio Gadea was the early frontrunner in the opening practice session, with a 1´45.878 lap of the `Cathedral of Motorcycle racing´. The Bancaja Aspar rider was just 0.027 quicker than Onde 2000 KTM´s Raffaele de Rosa in the morning runout - promising signs for both riders as they attempt to get their campaigns back on track.

Bradley Smith - an absentee from last year´s race through injury - came out all guns blazing with the intention of erasing his Donington disappointment, in third place on the morning timesheet, whilst Joan Olive, Nico Terol, Stefan Bradl and Simone Corsi all indicated that this Saturday may host an intense battle between the riders tightly packed at the top of the standings.

Esteve Rabat was eighth despite taking an off-track excursion, with Dutch DeGraaf Grand Prix Aprilia team rider Stevie Bonsey just behind and ahead of reigning World Champion Gabor Talmacsi.

Current series leader Mike di Meglio clocked the fourteenth fastest time, whilst Donington racewinner Scott Redding started slowly in twentieth place.
