Sachsenring to decide summer supremacy for 250cc riders

The last quarter-litre category race before the summer break, the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland will decide who will be enjoying their holidays on top of the 250cc standings.

The battle for supremacy in the 250cc class continues with the visit to Germany. Red Bull KTM´s Mika Kallio remained the series leader once the dust had settled in Assen, but only by the skin of his teeth. He heads the classification by just one point, ahead of quarter-litre category revelation Marco Simoncelli.

Metis Gilera´s Italian star is on a rich run of front row starts and podium finishes in 2008, achieving both of these feats at the past five races. Throughout the season Simoncelli has done battle with Mapfre Aspar´s Alvaro Bautista on numerous occasions, although he maintains a 37 point advantage over the former 125cc World Champion and winner of the Netherlands showdown. Sandwiched between the two fierce rivals is Alex Debon, the Lotus Aprilia veteran returning to full-time action this year.

Mattia Pasini, Hector Barbera and Hiroshi Aoyama trail the top four, although just 12 points separate the latter from Bautista in the standings. Yuki Takahashi, Thomas Luthi and Julian Simon complete the top ten.
