Edwards optimistic about staying put for 2009

Tech 3 Yamaha´s in-form experienced American rider Colin Edwards was upbeat about his contract extension discussions when pressed on the subject in the Sachsenring pre-event press conference.

On the panel of riders facing the media at the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland official press conference at Sachsenring on Thursday, Colin Edwards was in an optimistic mood when asked about his intentions for remaining in MotoGP next year with his current employers Tech 3 Yamaha.

The 34 year-old Texan is presently enjoying one of his best Grand Prix campaigns to date and replied to questions about his future saying, `I am extremely happy. I think Herve (Poncharal) and Yamaha as well are keen to keep me. We have got some terms and conditions we need to discuss but things are looking good. This is what I want to do (to stay). I have got a good crew, a good crew chief, and it is looking ok.´

Commenting on his strong recent form, with five top five finishes in the last five races putting him fifth in the general standings at the halfway point in the season, Edwards said, `So far this year, apart from the DNF at Jerez where it felt like we could have been on the podium or close to it, it has been good and I can´t complain. I think everybody is pretty happy on our team.´

On his expectations for the Sachsenring weekend, the satellite Yamaha rider added, `We had a good race two weeks ago and now we come here, I know we´ll get the bike set-up well and we´ll keep it rolling, so I´m looking forward to it. Obviously we´ll have to wait and see what happens with the weather though.´
