Pedrosa and Stoner anticipate Sachsenring challenge

World Championship leader Dani Pedrosa and MotoGP title holder Casey Stoner took centre stage at the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland pre-event press conference on Thursday afternoon.

With an expectant media corps gathered at the Sachsenring on the eve Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland the first man on the microphone was Repsol Honda´s World Championship leading Spaniard Dani Pedrosa at the Thursday press conference.

Reflecting on his excellent record of three wins from his last four visits to the German track in the MotoGP and 250cc classes, Pedrosa commented, `Well I have done pretty well here in the past few years and it is a track that I try to enjoy. It is a difficult track for the bike and for the rider´s body because you are on your left side for quite a long time. The first part is quite tricky but then it gets a bit better.´

When asked about the task of staying ahead of the chasing pack having leapfrogged Valentino Rossi in the standings at Assen, Pedrosa looked forward to back-to-back races this weekend and at Laguna Seca a week later saying, `It would be nice to stay in the lead but we have two difficult races now. They are very important races and we have to face the challenge to do the best we can and try to focus on the two races before the break.´

The man whose MotoGP crown Pedrosa covets, Casey Stoner, was also on hand to provide his perspective on the title chase, following his successive wins at Donington and Assen.

`It will be good if we can keep up these sort of results, but it is going to be very hard,´ admitted Stoner. `We have had a couple of good weekends so we have got to keep working harder than anybody else to make sure we maintain this form.´

`Last year here I was quickest in every session apart from the race, and in the race itself we just had an unfortunate problem with the tyre,´ continued the World Champion. `We would have been better going for a softer selection, we just went a bit too hard and I wasn´t the only one. We have to be able to forgive for that because everything else worked out so well.´

`This year everyone has been working so hard to make sure that kind of thing doesn´t happen again and that´s why I believe we can be competitive here.´
