Weber still confident of good Sachsenring result despite tough Friday

Weber still confident of good Sachsenring result despite tough Friday

With Dani Pedrosa, Andrea Dovizioso and Colin Edwards all crashing on Friday afternoon at Sachsenring Michelin had some analysing to do at the German track.

After Bridgestone-shod Casey Stoner topped the timesheets by nearly half a second at the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland on Friday and a trio of big names hit the deck on Michelin tyres in the afternoon, Jean-Philippe Weber had to put his thinking cap on at the end of the day.

The French company´s director of motorcycle racing saw Dani Pedrosa, Andrea Dovizioso and Colin Edwards crash in the second free practice session as temperatures rose during the day in Germany and grip levels for certain riders dropped.

Reacting to the trio of accidents Weber told motogp.com, `We had about ten or twelve degrees more of ground temperature in the afternoon and that probably affected the grip levels of the front tyre. Knowing that we had some higher temperatures on the ground in the afternoon we wanted to use some harder front tyres, but we should have used some softer ones.´

Asked whether he was confident of Michelin defending their strong record at the Sachsenring this weekend the Frenchman noted the recent dominance of Stoner – who incidentally also crashed on Friday – but also remained hopeful of good performances from his own riders, saying, `Sure Casey has shown during the two last races that his package is working really well and we know he is an excellent rider.´

`But depending on the weather conditions this weekend I think we will be able to get good results. Sure it will be difficult but we are still confident and optimistic.´
