Benson satisfied with new engine performance at Sachsenring

Nicky Hayden´s chief mechanic with the Repsol Honda team, Pete Benson, is pleased with the progression of the American´s RC212V package, as the adaptation to the pneumatic valve engine continues in Germany.

Continuing with the updated version of HRC´s pneumatic valve engine at the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland Nicky Hayden is still finding his way with the updated RC212V, but the overall atmosphere within his camp is positive at present.

Hayden´s upturn in competitiveness in recent weeks, and his stroke of bad luck in missing out on the podium right at the death in Assen last time out, have made him even more determined to do well at one of his favourite tracks this weekend at Sachsenring.

The 2006 World Champion´s chief mechanic Pete Benson saw the former MotoGP title holder lap eighth fastest overall on Friday and third quickest on a drying track on Saturday morning, before telling, `We are pretty happy with the new engine again, same as the last two weekends. The character suits Nicky. We have had to do a little bit of work with the engine brake and traction control which has been different to the previous engine, but all in all we are pretty happy with it.´

On readying the new bike for Sachsenring in particular, Benson explained, `We have made a few geometry changes, because the engine has changed the handling characteristics quite a bit, but we expected that and it is nothing really major from the last race. Just a couple of small tweaks that have helped on change of direction and it all seems to be going in the right way.´
