MotoGP Sunday Guide – Sachsenring

The statisticians pick out a selection of interesting points pertaining to today´s premier class action at the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.

- Casey Stoner starts from pole for the fourth successive race. Stoner has had five wins and a third from the last six races he has started on pole. The last time that Stoner did not finish on the podium after qualifying on pole was in Germany last year when he finished fifth.

- If Casey Stoner wins the race it will be the first victory at the Sachsenring circuit for both Ducati and Bridgestone. It would also be the 100th victory by Australian riders in the premier-class of Grand Prix racing.

- Dani Pedrosa starts from the front row for the seventh time in 2008. Dani Pedrosa has been the first Honda rider across the line in the last ten MotoGP races.

- Colin Edwards starts from the front row for the first time since Le Mans. Edwards finished fourth last year in Germany after qualifying down in 13th place on the grid.

- Andrea Dovizioso starts from his best grid position (fourth) since moving up to the MotoGP class – his previous best was sixth at Donington.

- Jorge Lorenzo starts from his best grid position since he was fifth on the grid at Le Mans. Lorenzo´s third place finish in the 250cc race in 2006 is his only podium at the Sachsenring circuit.

- Randy de Puniet has not had a finish in the MotoGP class in Germany, suffering mechanical problems in each of the last two years when riding for Kawasaki.

- Valentino Rossi is starting his 202nd successive Grand Prix race – a new record for the longest ever sequence of successive Grand Prix starts without missing a race. Rossi won at the Sachsenring two years ago after qualifying down in eleventh place on the grid.

- Nicky Hayden has finished third for the last four successive years in Germany, last year after qualifying in 14th place on the grid.

- Shinya Nakano is one of just three riders who have scored points in all nine MotoGP races so far this year – the others are Rossi and Pedrosa.

- Alex de Angelis has finished on the podium for the last six years at the Sachsenring circuit, whilst competing in the smaller classes of MotoGP.

- Loris Capirossi´s second place last year is the only occasion a rider using Bridgestone tyres has finished on the podium at the Sachsenring circuit.
