New RC212V draws positive first impression from Nakano

New RC212V draws positive first impression from Nakano

Third placed in the first free practice session at Brno, Shinya Nakano is feeling immediately at home with the factory spec Honda RC212V.

An essential concept in MotoGP is paying back faith placed in oneself, and that idea was continued on Friday morning by San Carlo Honda Gresini´s Shinya Nakano. Entrusted with developing a factory spec Honda RC212V from Brno onwards, the Japanese rider immediately pushed his way to the upper reaches of the timesheet in the first free practice session, ending the morning run as the third fastest rider.

Fast times were not the only goal for Nakano on Friday in Brno, as he was also aiming to give some useful feedback from the off. His initial assessment provided a thorough analysis of the differences between his previous and actual bike.

`The new machine has got some very smooth engine power from first impressions; it´s also a really easy bike with which to change direction. Under hard braking it is more stable than my previous bike, so basically I like this version,´ said Nakano.

`The main difference in terms of dimensions is the frame, and thus also the handling character. I have to get used to it, but the strong points are the ones that I mentioned earlier.´

His positive reaction was shared by his crew, with Antonio Jimenez one of the San Carlo Honda Gresini team members particularly enthused by the initial run.

`I´m very happy, because the weather forecast was bad for today and I couldn´t sleep thinking about it. Now we´ve had an hour to understand how this bike works,´ he said, having breathed a sigh of relief after seeing clear skies in the Czech Republic.

`It´s completely different in terms of the chassis and engine. We´ve found a good base, and even though we are a long way from Rossi and Stoner still, Shinya is at least as fast as he was before.´

Exactly how far Nakano can go towards turning the early form into a result at Brno remains to be seen, but the veteran is just savouring the opportunity for now.

`Without testing here it´s not going to be easy, but I´m happy with the bike and grateful for the opportunity. What Honda want is information and better results, so hopefully we can do well here.´
