Edwards ready for tyre discussion

One of the main developers of Michelin tyres during his time in MotoGP, Colin Edwards wants to help the company bounce back from their Brno disappointment.

A long-time collaborator with Michelin over the years, veteran rider Colin Edwards was left high and dry by some slippery rubber at Brno last Sunday. The Tech 3 Yamaha rider improved upon his race times on Monday in testing, but admitted that this did not necessarily represent a step forward.

`I don´t know if we actually improved anything. I think we could just have found something that should have used on Sunday,´ said Edwards after riding with a different compound to any in his allocation over the weekend.

`We need to sit down and think about the situation a little bit,´ he added diplomatically.

The `Texas Tornado´ joined the rest of the MotoGP field –minus injured absentee Nicky Hayden- in a Saturday meeting chaired by Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta. The subject on the agenda was corner speed, with an open floor for suggestions from those out on track week-in, week-out.

`There are a couple of issues; we´ve got bikes reaching the safety road now, and that´s because of the corner speed. Tyre development has outgrown the tracks that we use,´ said Edwards, twice on the podium this season.

`We need to engineer something for better safety, and also for a better show. I´m all for making it a bigger spectacle, but two guys out in front with a twelve second lead after six laps? It´s a joke to me,´ he concluded, eager to challenge title contenders Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner for his first MotoGP victory in the remaining six races.
