Italian World Champions acknowledged at Misano

The FIM and Dorna honoured all the Italian previous winners of the premier class MotoGP World Championship at an event at the Misano circuit on Friday.

As part of MotoGP´s celebrations marking the 60th season of Grand Prix racing, `MotoGP Champions Towers´ were presented at the Gran Premio Cinzano di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini on Friday, marking the achievements of the all the Italian former premier class World Champions.

Mr. Carmelo Ezpeleta (CEO Dorna Sports) and Mr. Vito Ippolito (FIM President) presented the awards to Valentino Rossi (five-time premier class champion from 2001-2005), Franco Uncini (1982), Marco Lucchinelli (1981) and Giacomo Agostini (eight time premier class champion, 1966-1972 & 1975).

Giulio Liberati received the award on behalf of his grandfather Libero Liberati who was the World Champion in 1957, while the family of Umberto Masetti, the first Italian World title winner (1950 & 1953) were unable to attend and will receive his award by special delivery.

Mr Ippolito commented, `I am very honoured to be in the presence of these great champions and it is very special to have them all gathered together. Italy has had phenomenal success in producing World Champions and it is a great pleasure to present these trophies to them on behalf of the FIM and Dorna.´
