Barbera bites back with Saturday practice showcase

Hector Barbera showed improved speed in the 250cc morning practice session, topping the timing screen.

Nearly a full second faster than any other 250cc rider on track, Hector Barbera gave provisional poleman Marco Simoncelli something to think about in the second quarter-litre practice session at Misano.

The Team Toth Aprilia rider came close to dipping into the 1´37´s in the Saturday session, finally clocking a fastest lap of 1´38.082 on his 24th time around the circuit. The Spaniard was 0.816 quicker than Simoncelli, who recorded his best time on his 27th and final lap of the session.

Julian Simon and local star Mattia Pasini were the only other riders within a second of Barbera, with title contender Mika Kallio joined by Red Bull KTM teammate Hiroshi Aoyama in the fastest six of the run.

Thomas Luthi, Yuki Takahashi, Aleix Espargaro and Hector Faubel also placed in the top ten, although there were problems for the likes of Alvaro Bautista and Alex Debon in their first Saturday outing. The Spanish duo finished eleventh and thirteenth, respectively.
