Excitement building at MotoGP San Marino extravaganza

More beautiful summer weather at the Gran Premio Cinzano di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini saw Saturday morning kick off in style at Misano.

The paddock awoke to another morning of brilliant Italian sunshine on the second day of action at MotoGP´s 2008 Misano visit, with the ambience building ahead of Sunday´s racing.

An apparent improvement in the material provided by Michelin this weekend after their Brno debacle meant the atmosphere in the garages of the seven MotoGP riders supplied by the French fabricant was far better on Friday than in the Czech Republic, with the likes of Colin Edwards, Randy de Puniet and Jorge Lorenzo looking far more competitive than they were a fortnight ago.

Bridgestone-supplied Casey Stoner, nonetheless, led the way on Friday in both practice sessions but having mysteriously aggravated an old scaphoid fracture yesterday he could find the going tough on Saturday.

Stoner´s injury may open the door for Valentino Rossi to secure pole position this afternoon for his `second´ home Grand Prix, the Italian having lapped second quickest on Friday.

John Hopkins is expected back on track this morning having missed out on proceedings yesterday due to his ongoing rib injury.
