Kallio confident of MotoGP move

Kallio confident of MotoGP move

250cc title challenger Mika Kallio is still expecting to leave the class at the end of the season.

A former 125cc World Championship runner-up and current 250cc title contender, Mika Kallio is harbouring ambitions of a move up to the MotoGP for the 2009 season. The Finnish rider has been linked with a string of teams and projects for the future, having impressed with his current Red Bull KTM ride during his near two-year stay in the quarter-litre category.

`I said at the beginning of the season that, whatever happens this year, I will be trying to go to MotoGP. It is the right time for me,´ said Kallio on Saturday at Misano, revealing that talks were in an advanced stage for his chance to fight amongst the 800cc stars.

`At the moment there is still not much to say. I haven´t signed any contract so far, but it looks as if things are going well. We still have to meet some people and discuss with them what will happen. I´m still confident that I can move up to MotoGP´

For the immediate future, Kallio has pressing concerns in the 250cc class in which he currently plies his trade. Currently sixteen points adrift of series leader Marco Simoncelli in the classification, he could only manage to place on the third row of the grid for this weekend´s race in San Marino.
