Barbera leads first dry 250cc IMS session

Hector Barbera moved up the timesheet with some speedy laps of the dry Indianapolis circuit on Saturday afternoon.

Hector Barbera prepared for what he will be hoping shall be a dry 250cc qualifying session in the best possible fashion, setting the pace in the final quarter litre practice session. The Team Toth Aprilia rider put down a lap time of 1´46.337 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, just 0.025 quicker than rival and World Championship leader Marco Simoncelli.

Both riders had not experienced the best of times in the first qualifying session, and occupy a provisional eleventh and fifteenth, respectively, on the 250cc grid.

The final classified rider on Friday, Alvaro Bautista returned to the sharp end of the timesheet as the fifth fastest man in the run, behind Alex Debon and Mika Kallio. Hiroshi Aoyama also featured in the top six, split by just half a second.

Lukas Pesek, Hector Faubel, Julian Simon and Mattia Pasini complete the list of the fastest ten 250cc riders to date at the IMS course, with Pasini outside the 107% qualifying cut-off yesterday afternoon.

The session was halted shortly after its having commenced, owing to a crash from Thomas Luthi. The Emmi-Caffe Latte rider was taken to the medical centre for examination, with the possibility of head injury ruled out but a left hand trauma confirmed.
