Iannone goes fastest in 125cc Saturday opener

Italian rider Andrea Iannone was the 125cc class´ top dog at the IMS circuit on Saturday morning.

Provisional front row starter Andrea Iannone was the quickest 125cc rider on a damp Indianapolis track in Free Practice 2, following on from Friday´s deluge at The Brickyard. The Italian, fastest in the opening session held stateside, clocked a 1´56.093 lap in the Saturday morning run.

Two-tenths of a second down on I.C. Team rider Iannone´s marker was Bradley Smith, penciled in for a second row start at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. He in turn came in nearly half a second quicker than provisional poleman Lorenzo Zanetti.

Simone Corsi, Joan Olive and Marc Marquez, Alexis Masbou and Danny Webb completed a tightly packed top eight, separated by less than a tenth of a second.

Reigning World Champion Gabor Talmacsi was given medical clearance to participate in the session after fracturing the scaphoid in his left arm on Friday, and the Hungarian performed twelve laps. He placed 29th on the timesheet.
