Indianapolis gears up for day two

Indianapolis gears up for day two

An overcast sky and light winds marked the morning as Saturday´s action at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix got started.

Another early start for the 125cc riders saw Saturday´s proceedings commence on a damp racing surface, but with a respite from the showers which impeded the historic first day of action at the new Indianapolis Motor Speedway MotoGP track.

Although there were puddles on the ground the light breeze and the extended, hour-long, opening 125cc free practice may well mean a dry racing line has formed by the time the MotoGP riders take to the track for their final practice outing - ahead of their afternoon qualifying session, which takes place at 1.55pm local time.

Following Friday´s torrential downpours there are more stable conditions predicted during the day on Saturday, with heavy rainfall forecast to arrive from 6pm onwards. Sunday´s racing could well take place in very wet weather, with Hurricane Ike apparently due to head north from Texas over the forthcoming 24 hours.

In addition to today´s MotoGP World Championship activity the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup youngsters will also be on track – with their race due to take place at 4.20pm – ahead of the Red Bull Riders Cup on Sunday, which will see them do battle with the cream of the crop from this year´s Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.
