Statistics for the MotoGP class at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix

- For the fourth successive race Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner fill the top two slots on the grid.

- Valentino Rossi starts from pole for the first time since the Italian Grand Prix; it is his first pole at a race held in the USA. If Rossi wins the race he will take the record for most premier class victories from Giacomo Agostini, a record that has stood since Agostini took his final victory at the West German Grand Prix in 1976 at the Nurburgring riding the MV Agusta factory machine.

- Rossi´s victory at Mugello earlier in the year is his only win from the last seven occasions he has started on pole. Having already won at Laguna Seca, Rossi has the opportunity to become the first rider ever to take two MotoGP victories in the USA in the same season.

- Casey Stoner starts from second place on the grid after a run of seven successive pole positions.

- Jorge Lorenzo has finished on the podium in each of the four races he has started from the front row this year.

- Nicky Hayden is the top Honda qualifier for the third time in 2008.

- Ben Spies is higher up the grid than any wildcard or replacement rider since Troy Bayliss was second fastest qualifier at the Valencia GP in 2006.

- If Loris Capirossi finishes in the top three it will be his 100th podium in Grand Prix racing and he would also become only the second rider in Grand Prix history to pass the milestone of 3000 points across all classes. The only other rider to achieve this is Rossi.

- Shinya Nakano and Valentino Rossi are the only two riders across all three GP classes to have scored points at every race in 2008.

- If Toni Elias finishes in the top three he will join Loris Capirossi and Casey Stoner as the only riders to have three successive podiums riding the Ducati MotoGP machine.

- If Randy de Puniet fails to finish in the top fifteen it will be the first time since moving up to the MotoGP class that he will have gone three successive races without scoring a point.

- Andrea Dovizioso has only twice failed to finish in the top ten in the first thirteen races of his debut season on a MotoGP machine – he crashed in Portugal and was eleventh in China.

- If Colin Edwards finishes third at Indianapolis he will equal the 124 points he has achieved in each of the past two seasons.
