Debon on song in first Japanese 250cc session

Alex Debon made an outstanding return to Japan with the quickest quarter-litre class time of Friday morning.

Alex Debon got quickly reacquainted with the Twin Ring Motegi circuit on Friday morning, recording the fastest time of the first Free Practice session on his first laps at the track since 2005. The Lotus Aprilia rider put down a 1´56.100 lap of the Japanese circuit on his eighteenth and final lap of the session, some four-tenths of a second quicker than second placing home rider Yuki Takahashi.

Takahashi is Honda´s main hope for quarter-litre glory this weekend, in what will possibly be his last 250cc race at the circuit before a move up to MotoGP. The JiR Team Scot rider was dead-on half a second faster than last year´s racewinner, Red Bull KTM´s Mika Kallio, a rider chasing the World Championship and also tipped for an 800cc move.

Julian Simon, Alex Baldolini and 2006 victor Hiroshi Aoyama rounded off the top six, all three over 1.5 seconds down on Debon´s time. The top ten was completed by Roberto Locatelli, Hector Faubel, Hector Barbera and Alvaro Bautista, whilst series leader Marco Simoncelli placed eleventh.
