Dunlop celebrate 200th consecutive 250cc race win

Dunlop celebrate 200th consecutive 250cc race win

Premier class tyres may have been under the spotlight on Sunday, but there was also a big milestone achieved in the quarter-litre class.

Tyre manufacturer Dunlop celebrated `200 not out´ at Motegi with Marco Simoncelli´s 250cc race win, reaching the double-century of consecutive race wins in the quarter-litre category. Their winning streak stretches back over a decade and, as Jeremy Ferguson from the rubber provider noted, Motegi was a fitting location for the milestone.

`It´s a fantastic achievement and a whole generation of engineers that have worked towards this. The first race that we won in this sequence goes back to 1996, at Suzuka in Japan with Max Biaggi, and now here we are with the 200th victory, once again in Japan. It´s ten years that we have raced at Motegi, and the fact that it went down to the last lap and a circuit record between Marco and Alvaro Bautista is great for a tyre company.´

MotoGP stars Valentino Rossi, Marco Melandri and Casey Stoner have also featured on previous landmark stages of the winning run, with the 50th, 100th and 150th race victory for Dunlop. Ferguson extended his thanks to all involved in the continued success, and also to those behind the scenes who made the achievement possible.

I´d like to thank everybody that has been involved in Dunlop Motorsport for not only the last ten years, but the last forty. These people, and everybody who has worked with us. We look forward to working with them again in the future,´ concluded the Briton.
