Bright start to weekend at Phillip Island

Bright start to weekend at Phillip Island

The 2008 Australian Grand Prix was blessed with blue skies and bright sunshine as day one commenced.

The 125cc riders got the visit to Phillip Island off to a customary start in beautiful, bright conditions on Friday morning, though the cold local temperatures meant the Australian track surface was cool as the action commenced.

The difference in track temperature between the morning and afternoon sessions is something which tyre suppliers Bridgestone and Michelin are acutely aware of at this venue, an element they will take into special consideration for today´s 10am and 1.55pm MotoGP free practices.

The weather forecast has rain as a possibility later in the day, with precipitation also predicted for Saturday and Sunday, though the early signs on Friday suggest that - with any luck - the weather man may be wrong on this occasion.

The day´s proceedings will also include a Stunt Riders´ Display on-track at 12.50pm, coinciding with an F-18 Jet flyover demonstration.
