Di Meglio opens Australian weekend setting the pace

The 2008 Australian Grand Prix commenced on Friday morning with 125cc World Championship leader Mike di Meglio as the early pace setter.

Frenchman Mike di Meglio led the way in the opening session of the Phillip Island weekend, setting down a 1'38.454 marker in the 125cc Free Practice 1 outing, to keep him 0.334s ahead of second quickest participant Sandro Cortese.

Ajo Motorsport´s title-chasing Di Meglio and Emmi - Caffe Latte´s Cortese were joined in the top five by Simone Corsi (Jack & Jones WRB), Stefan Bradl (Grizzly Gas Kiefer Racing) and Gabor Talmacsi (Bancaja Aspar).

Raffaele de Rosa (Onde 2000 KTM), Bradley Smith (Polaris World), Nicolas Terol (Jack & Jones WRB), Danny Webb (Degraaf Grand Prix) and Joan Olive (Belson Derbi) all featured in the top ten.

The dry, stable conditions meant it was a relatively incident free run, with inconsequential crashes for the likes of Hugo van den Berg, Robert Muresan, Robin Lasser and Bastien Chesaux.
