Simoncelli closes 250cc practice on top

Metis Gilera´s Marco Simoncelli was the fastest rider in the second 250cc Free Praxtice session.

Provisional front row starter and 250cc World Championship leader Marco Simoncelli was the quickest quarter-litre rider of Saturday morning at Phillip Island, recording a time of 1´33.603 on a dry Australian track. The Italian was just nine-tenths of a second quicker than title rival Mika Kallio, who was showing no fear after his miraculous series of saves from Friday afternoon.

Repsol KTM man Julian Simon continued to be on the pace, just over a tenth of a second down on Simoncelli, whilst provisional poleman Alvaro Bautista also placed strongly in fourth.

Mattia Pasini, Yuki Takahashi, Roberto Locatelli, Alex Debon, Aleix Espargaro and Lukas Pesek also featured in the top ten in the final session before the crucial second qualifying run.
